Aimee's Kidney Transplant

Aimee's Kidney Transplant Fundraiser.

**Update on Aimee's progress**

Hello, my name is Dena and I have set this go fund me up to raise money for Aimee's brother Daniel to donate his kidney which is the only option to save Aimee's life.

Aimee was diagnosed with Thin Membrane Disease when she was just 22. This means Aimee’s own immune system attacks her kidneys.

In November 2022 Aimee’s health started to deteriorate meaning a kidney transplant is now her only option.

After many rounds of tests, Aimee’s mum Jayne was devastated to find she was not a match. Hope then turned to Aimee’s brother Daniel, who lives in the UK. Aimee went to the UK in December 2022 to start the testing process with Daniel. Daniel then travelled to Australia for more testing in April 2023. After these tests were completed, it was a relief to learn that Daniel was a match.

In May 2023, Aimee was rushed to hospital and dialysis was started . Her specialist told Aimee she is now in end stage kidney failure and that the transplant was iminent, again another set back. Aimee commenced peritoneal dialysis which was administered through a tube in her stomach. For 10 months she endured this treatment every 4 hours, 24 hours a day. Unfortunately this treatment wasn't getting enough toxins out of her body so the hard decision was made to switch to haemodialysis. This meant she had to get a Hickman Line surgically inserted into her chest. A Hickman line is a central line catheter that is placed into a vein in your chest just above the heart. Aimee now undergoes haemodialysis 3 x a week, 4 hours each session. Haemodialysis is a procedure where a dialysis machine and a special filter called an artificial kidney are used to clean Aimees blood.

Aimee has remained positive, strong, and determined to try and carry on a as much normal life as she could. Aimee's health has declined even further over the past few months which has resulted her being signed off from work until the transplant and recovery period has been completed.

Funding is desperately needed to enable Daniel to give his sister the best chance to survive and to live as normal life as possible. Daniel lives in the UK with his wife and young family of 5, he is self-employed. The family are left with the task of funding this huge cost, whilst Daniel must also continue to financially support his family. The majority of the money that has been raised has already been used for flights and coverage of Daniel's wages and living costs for the time Daniel came to Australia for testing in September 2023.

Daniel is due to return to Australia this year for the transplant. As it is huge operation, he has to remain in Australia for around 12 weeks for his recovery period. As he is self employed, Aimee and her mum Jayne will have to cover his wages for this time as his family will still be in the UK. The cost of flights will also have to be covered out of the money that is raised.

Aimee and her family are truely grateful for all of the donations so far, this would not have been possible without them. We just need to get her over this final hurdle and are counting down the months until they are on the other side of this stressful and hard journey.

Any amount you are able to donate to support Aimee and Daniel would be greatly appreciated. If you are unable to contribute at this time, please share this message with others. Thank you.
