A family torn apart: Basels story

I’m Basel Abou Miri, a young boy whose life was turned upside down by the devastating effects of war. I lived a happy life with my parents and my 5 siblings, Muhammad (15), Jaber (14), Musa (13), Suleiman (6), and Mayar (10). We attended school, played together, and dreamed of a bright future.

The Day Everything Changed

But then, tragedy struck. Our home was destroyed by a bombing, reducing our lives to rubble. My little sister Mayar, the brave angel, was severely injured, suffering a traumatic head injury that affected her brain and left her with limited use of her left side.

Separated and Scared

Miraculously, Mayar and my mother, along with three of my brothers, were evacuated to Qatar. But I’m still stuck in Deir Al Balah, Gaza, with my father and brother, risking our lives every day to survive. We’re forced to take cover from bombs, never knowing when the next attack will come. Our situation is dire, and our basic needs and food are unmet.

My Plea for Help

“ As I write this, I’m scared and unsure of what the future holds. I just want to be reunited with my family and feel safe again. Please, help us. I miss my siblings, my mother, and the life we once had. I want to feel the warmth of their love and the comfort of their presence again.” - Basel
