Ahkiron’s Journey
Compassion Never Ages Out
Ahkiron is a vibrant young man living with cerebral palsy who has grown up in Bermuda’s foster care system. Thanks to the Department of Child and Family Services and the love of his former therapeutic foster parents (now his Guardian/Receiver Legal Permenant Parents), he has made extraordinary progress despite profound medical and developmental challenges.
On September 28, 2025, Ahkiron turns 18. While this is a milestone, it also means he will “age out” of Foster Care, losing access to many of the critical supports that have sustained his health and progress. Though legally an adult, he is developmentally at the level of a 6-year-old and requires lifelong therapeutic support.
Earlier this year, Ahkiron underwent major orthopedic surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital. The uninsured costs for his medical care over the past year and follow-up needs abroad exceed $200,000, and he now urgently requires $50,000 for specialized therapeutic equipment, adaptive mobility supports, outpatient therapy, and new hearing aids. Without timely access, doctors warn that he risks regression, undoing years of progress.
The Weight Loss Way Makers Challenge
In response, Ahkiron’s parents, Shlomo and Zipporah, have launched the Weight Loss Way Makers Annual Challenge—a 12 to 24 week fundraiser combining personal sacrifice with community support. As they commit to losing weight publicly as part of their own wellness journey, they invite others to join them in solidarity while raising funds for Ahkiron’s care.
How Your Gift Helps

- Cover urgent costs for specialized therapeutic equipment and outpatient care not funded by Bermuda’s HIP insurance.
- Bridge the gap as Ahkiron transition from foster care to limited adult services.
- Procure wheelchair accessible transportation for Ahkiron and other disabled youth during activities and socialization events in the community.
