Unity's Journey with Auto Immune NMDA encephalitis

Family is the most important thing anyone could ask for. Unfortunately, this family has been hit with one crisis right after another:
- End of July-Beginning of August, COVID struck their entire household..... Grandma, both parents, and 3 of the 4 kids (Unity was visiting family in elsewhere and was spared this crisis). However, this crisis put everyone out of work, putting financial deficits and strains on the family.
- During this time, Grandma couldn't handle the harshness of COVID. Between other health issues, COVID, and new developments.... She gained her Angel wings on 8/13/2021. Unfortunately, death does not eleviate medical bills or funeral expenses. So, this is yet another cost added to families pile of responsibilities.
- Shortly there after, Unity Lopez (10yrs old), develops a migraine like no other that lands her in the PICU at Scott & White Childrens Hospital intubated & sedated leaving her parents with more questions than answers for days. Finally, they discover she has a very rare and very severe case of AntiNMDA Receptor Encephalitis. There is little to no information or research on it. So, they are literally in the dark. On top of that, she has global brain atrophy. They have been attempting therapy, but she has shown little response to it. There is no timelime for recovery or level of recovery she may make. This will be a lifelong uphill battle for her and her family.
The family does have insurance, but we all know that they only cover so much. She has since been transferred from Scott & White Children's in Temple, Tx to Santa Rosa Children'S in San Antonio , Tx.
So, now on top of all the other financial issues they are facing due to being out of work, they now are dealing with relocating to be closer to their Princess. Part of relocating is finding new work but also new living space.
No one should be away from their family, let alone their child, when their in a crisis. We ask that help in any way that you can. Let's bring this family back together.
