This Ramadhan we are aiming to support Ehsas Welfare and Social Services Organization (EWSSO) to help provide food packages to orphans, widows and less fortunate families in Afghanistan.

Background

Over the past forty years, the war in Afghanistan has resulted in the devastation of numerous families and dire conditions of poverty with more than 40% of the population living below the poverty line. Two years following the ascent of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA, commonly referred to as the Taliban) to power, global donors have halted most humanitarian aid and frozen billions of dollars in assets, plunging Afghans into the depths of economic crisis. The repercussions are dire, with a staggering 28.8 million individuals now urgently requiring assistance

Decades of turmoil and the impacts of climate change have not only ravaged infrastructure but also coerced millions into displacement. The unyielding cycle of droughts and natural calamities is aggravated by skyrocketing food costs and a significant lack of employment prospects for numerous individuals unable to secure work opportunities.

Where will your donations go?

Funds collected through this campaign will be directed towards Ehsas's operational team in Afghanistan, who will assemble food packages comprising essential staples such as flour, rice, green tea, oil, red beans, and sugar. These packages will be distributed to underserved families, orphans, and widows throughout Afghanistan. Each food basket will cost $95 CAD, the breakdown of items in each package is as follows:

Flour: 25 kg - $20

Rice: 24.5 kg - $46

Green Tea: 1 kg - $5

Oil: 5 liters - $9

Red Beans: 3.5 kg - $7

Sugar: 3.5 kg - $5

Dates: 1 kg - $3

About the Donor Team

As a group of young Afghans, we find ourselves in a privileged position to extend a helping hand to those in need within our communities. In recent years, we've dedicated our efforts to supporting orphanages in Afghanistan managed by Ehsas. This year, however, our focus shifts towards providing vital sustenance to vulnerable populations through the distribution of food packages. We reach out to you, dear stranger, with the hope that together, we can truly make a difference.

In our endeavors, we draw inspiration from the exemplary generosity of the Noble Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him.
