Help an Afghan Refugee Family Buy a Home!

We desperately need your help!

A three-generation family of Afghan refugees/evacuees desperately needs your help to buy a home. They were some of the many soldiers, interpreters, medics, and personnel who sacrificed everything to support the American military and fight terrorism. They stood side-by-side with their American counterparts, protecting each other.

When the Afghan government collapsed, they were forced to evacuate their country, leaving behind family, home, and personal effects. It has been a long journey since evacuating in August 2022. They were moved between two military bases, over a three-month period while having their paperwork processed, and then moved to an extended stay hotel where they shared four rooms.

When the time came to move out of the hotel, housing was extremely hard to find for a large family who wanted to stay together. A church assisted and offered to rent a house they owned to the family. It is not a traditional American-style home that ended up being perfect for a three-generation family.

Due to extenuating circumstances, the church is planning on selling the home and the family has 60 days to relocate. The housing market is still very difficult to find a home suitable for the family. They would love to stay in their current home since they have become settled in the area and feel at home and safe.

This family has made great strides toward establishing their lives in America. They are working multiple jobs to support themselves and are pursuing further education in hopes of expanding their professional opportunities. All of them are taking English classes, one is halfway through earning an Associate’s degree, and some are in trade school. Despite working tirelessly to finance their fresh start and receiving some assistance from government support programs, they are not able to purchase a home on their own.

We understand it may be difficult to donate to a family without seeing a picture of them or knowing their name but it's crucial to their safety that their identities are protected. However, we can share some details that are safe to release and can help humanize them to you: As mentioned, they are a three-generation family with a strong and loving bond, the eldest member is amazing at cornhole and likes to garden, some are wonderful sewists, the youngest children love their unicorn stuffed animals and playing on the playground, they love exploring local sites their new home.

I am a volunteer with a non-profit, Heart For Refugees who has been assisting the family since they were being housed in an extended stay hotel. 100% of donations will be going to this family. The first goal would be to raise enough to buy the home they are currently residing in or find them another home to purchase (we will be trying to get them qualified for a loan to cover some of the cost). If not enough is raised to purchase a home in the next sixty days, the donations will be used to offset the expenses of moving, security deposit, and rental assistance. All monies will be kept with the non-profit and used only for the family this fundraiser is for. We will continue our efforts to raise enough money to buy a home.

Thank you in advance for your support and please help us make this go viral. The family desperately wants to stay together. Much Love, Tia (Family Support Team Leader)
