Hello. My name is Adam Parker, and I provide the music accompaniment at St. James Major Catholic Church in Sharbot Lake. I was asked to play several months ago when the former keyboardist was no longer able to continue. Being a small rural parish, there is no one else available. But my keyboard is old, and is starting to fail. That’s why I’m looking to replace it. I hope to raise enough money for a new, better, keyboard before this one gives up the ghost. The loss would be felt by the whole congregation. It would also be particularly devastating for me.
I remember the first few weeks that I provided the music. I received many, many compliments after Mass, and Father Cyprian thanked me from the pulpit on more than one occasion. Fellow choir members continue to compliment me on my playing and I still receive compliments and even applause occasionally from members of the congregation. It is clear that the congregation values the music, and would sorely miss it.

I first started playing as a favour to my wife, who also sings in the choir. But I learned that playing music for others, and for God, helped with my mood. I have suffered from depression since childhood, and it has been particularly bad for the past several years, keeping me from working. Doing the Music Ministry at St. James Major tends to improve my mood. Not much, just from one to two on a scale of one to ten, but when you are that depressed, it is a big deal. I’m hoping it will be the first step in breaking the depressions hold over me.
So there are many people who would be grateful for your contributions. The congregation and choir at St. James Major would be very thankful to you if could help me keep the Music alive. I would be extremely grateful, both to keep the music alive and help keep the worst of the depression away.
The final closing date for this campaign is November 12, 2018. It will end earlier if a) I raise the full amount before then or b) if/when my current keyboard dies. At that time, or at the end of the campaign, I will take whatever money I have raised to date and purchase the best keyboard I can afford, new or used. That way I have at least two weeks to learn the new instrument before the start of Advent. Any extra funds will be used for the Music Ministry, such as buying hymnals or music for the choir.
As a thank you for your support, I will be happy to record your favourite hymn or Christmas Carol -- providing I have the music for it. Just let me know in the comments, and I will post the videos to Youtube once I have the new instrument. The size of the donation doesn’t matter. $5 & $10 donations are welcome because you never know just what will put you over the edge. Thank you for helping to keep Music alive!
Thank you, and God bless!
