Abigail's Dream To Learn & Swim

ABIGAIL'S STORY
I am a high school senior accepted into Milligan College in Tennessee,  with a partial swim scholarship. My dream is to be a collegiate swimmer. I have been swimming since the 3rd grade. I fell in love with Milligan College when we visited. It was so homey; I knew this was where I belonged! I was so ecstatic when I received my acceptance letter and even more so when they offered me money to swim on their team.

I have always been in the talented and gifted programs since I was in 3rd grade. I am a high achiever, holding down a job and maintaining a 3.8GPA while being a well-rounded individual who LOVES to swim!

RESOURCES
However, the school gave us the figures needed.  I have been applying for any and all scholarships that I can find. I am waiting to hear back.  We have come up with $5,000, but we are $10, 000 additional funds short.

These are the resources so far received:
Academic- Academic Dean's Scholarship- $10,250
Swimming Scholarship - $2,000
Federal Pell Grant -$4, 170
Federal Work Study- $2, 030
Federal Direct Sub Stafford Loan $3,500
Federal Direct UnSub Stafford Loan $2,000
Parents Loan $5,000

FAMILY HISTORY
Our family has had several years of financial hardships. My mom was in an auto accident, leaving her with a concussion. As a result, this left her in therapy and out of work for nine months on short term disability. My dad was injured and out on workers compensation. Then due to the length of time, he was out he ran out of family leave act. Therefore his company that he was employed for of five years let him go, leaving him unemployed. The unemployment lasted a few months. Once at his new job and having worked a few months, he hurt himself on the job and was out again for eight weeks on workers compensation. Unfortunately, this has resulted in my parents' savings and financial credit to be unfavorable.

ABOUT ABIGAIL
Along with the financial trouble, my family has faced due to accidents and things of the like, I have faced severe challenges in the past few years that have had an impact on our finances, my academics, and my outlook on life. In the spring of 2015, I suffered from anxiety and panic disorder,  not something every teenager can say. This diagnosis left me in shambles, at rock bottom, and even in the emergency room. In 2015, my life seemed very dark. I could not swim that year because of the crippling anxiety, or play softball because I was in fear of having another attack, and some days I couldn't even get out of bed to go to school as a result of not sleeping because of a panic attack. This season of my life affected my family and me. It changed who I was. After months of going to doctors, doing therapy, and just teaching myself not to break, I regained a sense of normality.

Today, I'm better than ever! I still feel the strain when I reflect back on every report card that didn't measure up, or swim meets or softball games that I was unable to compete.  However, those days are behind me. I am healthy and confident.  I look forward to the upcoming freshman year at Milligan College

HOW CAN YOU HELP, ABIGAIL
I don't want to give up on my dream to go to Milligan College to pursue psychology and SWIM. I want to try every avenue I can to earn money.

Please help me get the education I have been dreaming about since I was little. I promise I will pay it forward. Any little bit that you can donate, nothing is too small or too big!! I will appreciate your generosity.
