The Story: My mother, Maria suffered from Alzheimer's Disease for more than five years before passing away at 84 years old on May, 2015. Today, April 19, in honor of her birthday, I’m kicking off a fundraising campaign to help those suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease and related disorders.
My family and I watched a vibrant and loving woman navigate the devastating symptoms of Alzheimer’s Disease. Yet, she remained thankful and kind throughout her suffering. We are forever grateful to the family members, friends, and healthcare professionals that made it possible for us to provide care for her in our home. They so willingly provided the support, guidance, and love that enabled Mom to maintain her grace and dignity.
By participating as a member of team Athletes to End Alzheimer's, I’m committed to raising awareness and a minimum of $850.00 for CaringKind* . CaringKind provides free information, assistance and support for those with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, as well as for their family members, caregivers and professionals.
Currently, over 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's, and the number of Americans with Alzheimer’s will increase significantly over the next two decades, with expectations that the population of people age 65 and older will double.
It is with pride and honor that I am joining these committed athletes; I hope you will support us as we raise money to “End Alzheimer’s Disease.”
Thank you in advance.
Affectionately,
Leticia Long & Family
