Chickens at Arbor Ridge School!
Donation protected
Hello everyone! My name is Sean Nagy and I’m the elementary art teacher at Arbor Ridge K8 school in Orlando, Fl. Our school is a “green school” which promotes recycling, water conservation, and cultivating our own vegetables. We have students in grades K-8 maintain school gardens on school ground and take pride in helping through various clubs which educate them on sustainability.
Our school recently won first place in Orange County, FL and also awarded the 2023 US Department of Education Green Ribbon School!
With this said, I am sponsoring a new club, called the “Coop Troop”, for students to join next school year. This club will teach students how to properly care for and raise chickens (hens), including education on the chicken life cycle. I am hoping to raise enough money to offset the expenses that this new club will bring which includes construction material to expand the coop I have started, buying fencing, chicken feed, bedding, incubator, and other related poultry materials. Currently I have two chicks that the students have fallen in love with, naming them Goldie & Ginger, while watching grow in my classroom. We are hopeful to be able to buy more in the near future. They are so excited for next year, and I’m hoping with your generosity our club can thrive! You can personally see our chicks on a live web-steam I have set up for students and the public by going to YouTube and searching “ARS chickens”. (This will resume in August!!)
We are all excited about this project and would be appreciative of any donations you could give! Thank you!!
Update: We are still in need of donations! Our coop is almost done, but we are currently working on building the run portion and landscaping! We will be purchasing food and other medications for the upcoming school year! Thanks everyone!
Update 2: We added 6 more hens, for a total of 8! They have gotten bigger over the summer, about 4 months old now, and getting ready for their move in day next month!
