Hello! My name is Sat Pritam Khalsa. I was raised Episcopal and Jewish and eventually converted to Judaism. Over the last few years, I have been deeply involved in the practice of yoga and meditation. In the last year, my Soulful yearnings have turned toward deepening my understanding of and practice of Judaism, in conjunction with being of better service to the local community. There are many Jews in this area who have expressed to me that they do not feel that they have a way to connect to their own Jewish identity. I would like to be of service to them. Also, within the Monadnock region of New Hampshire where I live, there are strong presences of people of a variety of religions - including Christianity, Buddhism, Judaism, Sikhism - and a large number of people who do not affiliate with any religion, but have some kind of spiritual practice, or not. I want to serve these people, as well.
Because Judaism is the religion which sits profoundly in my Heart, I want to deepen my understanding of the wisdom that resides within its many traditions, so that I can offer it to our larger community. Hebrew Priestess school will serve me well. I will have the opportunity to learn practical skills, such as ways for creating sacred space and leading prayer,Also, I believe that school will help me to develop leadership skills in order to start a non-profit called the Interfaith Alliance of Monadnock or I AM. My goal for the non-profit is to create a healthier, happier community by bringing together people of all paths to do service and offer educational events.
I have been accepted to the Kohenet Hebrew Priestess Institute to begin March 2017. www.kohenet.com
The 3-year ordination program will cost about $9000. This includes tuition and boarding for the immersion portions of the program and will cover some of the cost of additional courses needed for ordination. I am also applying for financial aid and am saving to cover the rest.
As a part of and in preparation for this journey, I have been studying Hebrew, prayer, Torah and other Jewish studies daily, as well as continuing my relationship to and study of other spiritual practices. I do this because it creates understanding within, which I believe is a necessary part of fostering peace within any community.
I hope to be the kind of Hebrew Priestess who does not tell people what and how to do things because that is the way they have always been done; I hope to be the kind of spiritual leader who reaches into the wisdom of the traditions and offers it to the community. I hope to help guide people to apply consciousness to their lifestyles without judgment. I hope to help create a healthier, happier community here in rural New Hampshire. And if we can succeed here, perhaps the whole world will be a better place because of these efforts.
I am very grateful for your precious time and any contribution you may wish to make.
