AMAZON RAINFOREST FIRES - Emergency Relief Fund

Donation protected
Please DONATE to help Indigenous communities on the front line who are working to protect the Amazon Rainforest. Over 1 million Amazonian Indigenous people (approximately 400 different tribes) call the Amazon home and have been fighting to save it from human greed for years but now is the time that the world is finally listening and watching so now is our time to #ActForAmazonia.

This campaign is in British Pounds but you can google the conversion so that you're donating the intended amount. As a rough guide, £10 is approximately 11 euros and £10 is approximately $12.

UPDATE: Thanks to your support, $500 from this campaign has already been sent to Amazon Frontlines, which they will receive monthly so please KEEP DONATING and spreading the word. These funds are being used by Indigenous-led brigades to fight the fires and save the animals. The Leonardo Dicaprio Foundation are matching every donation given to AF on a rolling monthly basis, which means we have technically given those on the frontlines $1000 for use in Amazon Conservation and they'll receive $1000 from us every month until these funds run out so THANK YOU SO MUCH for choosing to donate to this campaign and let's please keep the momentum going.

ABOUT THIS CAMPAIGN

The Amazon Rainforest is an intricate ecosystem and carbon sink crucial to supporting all life on Earth. It's known as the 'lungs of the planet' because it provides 20% of the Earth's oxygen and is home to millions of species but it has been burning for weeks plunging Sao Paulo into darkness and forcing many animals, including Jaguars, to run for their lives. Many animals have sadly been burned to death.

Fires have been set by humans for years by farmers, cattle ranchers, illegal logging and mining companies and corrupt governments and all of that deforestation has resulted in this - fires so catastrophic and deadly that they can be seen from space. We need to unite and do something before it's too late because this planet is our home and our home is on fire.

Thank you for your kind donations and support. Further details below.

ABOUT ME

I'm an Animal Rights Activist and Environmentalist from the UK with an active Instagram presence through which I have fundraised for Animal Rights and Humanitarian causes before. Please see my page (a_lallie_) to learn more.

Previous fundraisers of mine include sending funds to Ali Mese, an 80 year old Turkish man who saved his cat as his house burned down. Sending funds to Pratima Devi, a homeless lady in India who cares for 400 dogs. Sending funds to activists in China like Du Yufeng and Madam Yang who have saved dogs and cats from the Yulin Festival. Sending funds to shelters in Venezuela who are helping dogs and cats who are starving to death as a result of the economic crisis - that page is still open if anyone is interested in donating - www.gofundme.com/starvingdogs

I've cared about Animal Rights and Environmental issues since I was a child but I really feel that social media has allowed me a platform through which I can raise awareness, create and circulate petitions and fundraise to help animals and humans in need. I feel that we can all make a difference in our own way. In the words of Margaret Mead: 'Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed it's the only thing that ever has'

ABOUT THE DONATIONS

I have created this fundraiser to act as a centralised, transparent platform through which caring global citizens can contribute and distribute funds to where they're needed most. I have been working with the amazing Go Fund Me team to facilitate this.

Funds donated to this campaign will benefit indigenous peoples of the Amazon, many of whom have been displaced as a result of these fires, as by supporting Indigenous initiatives, we will in turn support the animals within the rainforest who are suffering.

There are many non-profits that exist to restore rainforests, plant trees and help  tribes (e.g. Rainforest Alliance, Rainforest Trust, Amazon Watch, Plant A Tree Co etc) and all have been receiving a lot of donations so I've been doing my research into how our donations can have the most impact and I've decided that a non-profit organisation called Amazon Frontlines is who we will help with the target funds. If we exceed the target funds we can help others.

Amazon Frontlines provides funding for the Indigenous Confederation of the Brazilian Amazon (COIAB). They support frontline brigades helping them to fight the fires while also helping them to build political and technical capacity to protect the forest, the ecosystem and the animals in the future.

My reason for choosing this non-profit is because they helped the Waorani Tribe who live in the Ecuadorian Amazon Rainforest to protect acres of their land from Big Oil companies. Through donations, they funded the lawsuit and the tribe WON. As a result their forest is now protected and safe, which means the animals within it are protected and safe.

By helping this organisation to empower other indigenous tribes of the Amazon to also fight against commercial greed, big oil, logging, mining and forest clearing by farmers and cattle ranchers for animal agriculture, through the appropriate legal channels the way they did for the Waorani, we will effectively be helping them to protect their areas of rainforest too and in turn, the animals within it.

The real way to ensure lasting change in this world is through legislation because if burning the Amazon for cattle rearing can be made illegal, the fires will stop. That's why my fundraiser focuses on long term change rather than short term help, which is why this organisation is the perfect one to help.

What's really great about this organisation at the moment is that the Leonardo Dicaprio Foundation have partnered with them and agreed to MATCH all donations that are given on a rolling monthly basis. I have therefore agreed with Go Fund Me that we will send these donations to Amazon Frontlines via a rolling monthly donation, which the Leonardo Dicaprio Foundation will DOUBLE each month so that our donations will have double the impact.

I will post regular updates to my Instagram page to keep you informed on how our funds are helping. If this fundraiser raises £5000, those on the frontlines of Amazon conservation will receive £10,000 and so on. This is a really great way to not only help the indigenous people on the frontlines protect the Amazon but to also maximise the amount we're sending them.

Once again thank you for your donations and support xxx
