Beth Marie Collins (nee Blakney), of Fenelon Falls, a wife, a mother of two and grandmother to one, a sister and a daughter, suffered a life changing accident almost two years ago when a forklift she was working in failed and the people basket crashed to the ground and virtually severed her leg. Had it not been for the quick work of fellow employees in stemming the blood flow by wrapping a T shirt tightly around the massive injury she would have bled out in minutes and died. But Beth survived that near fatal event and has undergone a dozen different surgeries to try to save a leg and foot so she can enjoy a normal life again. She soldiered on through pain and suffering but now her doctors have told her the only hope for a normal pain free and active life out of bed is to have the right leg amputated below her knee.
As shocking and upsetting that is for a woman who has suffered so much, Beth is ready to face this challenge.
Plans are now in motion to prepare Beth for that surgery but Insurance will not cover all of the ancillary costs .
Family and friends are looking for ways to raise money through activities or donations. She will need a high end prosthetic the cost of which is thousands of dollars. She will need to have renovations to the facilities in her home and perhaps some modifications to her car so she can drive again and feel independent.
