They Also Faced the Sea- ALMEDA!

Time to get the last portrait hung!! We have approval!!!

Exactly a year ago today, the town of Provincetown and Provincetown 365 celebrated the restoration of Norma Holt's oversize photo installation on Fishermen's Pier entitled They Also Faced the Sea.  Our unveiling ceremony was profoundly emotional as nearly 50 descendants of the Portuguese mothers depicted arrived to honor their heritage and this now iconic Provincetown landmark.  But our revelry was slightly mitigated by the absence of the fifth portrait of Almeda Segura on the northern wall of the old fish house.  The pier had been under contract for sale, leaving the future of this last portrait uncertain...

The good news is now official! The new pier owners,  Ann and Chuck Lagasse, have agreed to have Almeda rejoin her Portuguese portrait família and soon, her wizened face will once again be the first to greet bay travelers as they round the breakwater. That is, if you all are willing once again to support our effort.

Last spring, Provincetown 365 raised just over $10,000 in 3 days  (with over half the amount in 4 short hours!) Many of you were disappointed that the fundraising was over so quckly that you didn't have a chance to donate... WELL,  THIS IS YOUR CHANCE!   Including a small credit from last year, we will need just over $1000 to bring the installers back to town and return our beloved Almeda to her esteemed frame left empty too long.   I have included the sum of $300 in this drive to cover the balance of last year's cost to print informational flyers for MacMillan Pier and the Chamber of Commerce and to replace the commemorative plaque on MacMillan Pier.  So I am asking for an additional $1300  total to complete this project. 

We  hope you all will continue to support this local treasure,  a rare embodiment of what so many of us love about Provincetown.  Help bring our Almeda home!
