My name is Alexiz Nathan I’m raising money because I’m in need of a heart transplant to save my life. 

I was born with a rare heart condition. I’ve had two corrective open heart surgeries with hopes of improving my heart health, however, despite the surgeries the health of my heart declined. I became increasingly symptomatic causing me to spend a lot of time in & out of the ER afraid that I might not live to see another day . I’ve had several ER visits , follow up appointments and an extended ER stay, trying to explore every available treatment option. My care team determined I needed specialized care because there was nothing more they could do to help ,save or repair my heart. I was referred to Emory University for further evaluation, where I learned that a heart transplant is the best and only treatment option to save my life. As a single mother of two beautiful daughters, this journey has changed every part of our lives. I worked for the Department of Corrections and was dedicated & successful to my career  while also managing to launch a fairly successful breakfast delivery company.  Unfortunately due to my declining health, I have been unable to work, making it increasingly difficult to keep up with my personal and medical financial responsibilities. I haven’t been able to work for the past 5 months and I’ve used my savings to cover my house hold bills, transportation, medical expenses and to make sure my daughters have the essentials and necessities they need.

Not being able to work and provide for my daughters has been extremely depressing. Now I’m faced with the burden of needing a heart transplant and not being able to afford the necessary financial requirements to receive it , not being able to afford my medications , on the verge of homelessness & losing my transportation. I’m not asking for handouts I’m asking for help because I truly need it. Reaching the goal will allow me to be able to pay the requirements needed to proceed with getting a heart transplant , pay medical expenses not covered by insurance, pay for medications, pay for lodging transportation and food for my children and family during my procedure, pay for recovery after care , and healing expenses. Most of all it will relieve financial stress , the depression caused by constant worry of not being able to provide for my daughters , homelessness , losing my transportation & everything I worked & prayed for. It will allow me to focus on preparing for the heart transplant and my health and healing after .

- In order to receive the heart transplant It is REQUIRED after discharge to live within 65 miles of the hospital and because we live 4 hours (261 miles) away from Emory University in Atlanta Ga we will have to temporarily relocate from our homes.

- It is REQUIRED to provide financial proof that covers the cost of all medications for 6 months after surgery.

-It is an expected 6-12 month recovery period after the transplant and I will not be able to return to work until medically cleared . 

This fundraiser will help meet the financial requirements need before and will help with financial support after the heart transplant. Donations will also help me help my parents with their some of their financial obligations as they will be my immediate care givers  and unable to work due to the requirements of my care plan and the temporary relocation  requirements.
