It is very difficult to reach out for help but sometimes it takes a village to get us over the tough spots. We have been struggling with my first granddaughter Emily with severe anxiety and depression. She has been receiving professional help for the last few years but this past December she was a victim of trauma and has been diagnosed with PTSD. This event has caused extreme issues for a child who was already struggling. I have done a lot of research at the suggestions of professionals and we would like to be able to get a service dog for Emily to train with. After weeks of research and speaking to organizations I have learned that we can in fact get a dog sooner with a signed commitment to fundraise for the organization at a higher cost commitment. At the same time Emily would be receiving an already trained dog that will be retrained to meet her needs. Which made me question the bonding part of this process.
Finally, I have found a wonderful organization Canines 4 Hope and they can help us with the process of having Emily train with a puppy and have the puppy read her needs and provide support and security. The puppy will only know the needs of Emily and will be trained to help her feel secure and comfortable wherever she is. It will respond to panic attack and melt downs. This will also allow Emily to take control of her life knowing the puppy has her back at all times.
This is a long and expensive process but will help her to enter back into the world. Right now most of her days are spent in the security of her home. She is on hospital home bound school and other than my house and medical visits and brief shopping trips she is isolated. Anything you can do to meet our goal would be greatly appreciated. I am asking all of you to reach out to people you might already know who donate or have grants and help me connect with them. maybe your job, church, temple, etc. I know we can do this with the right connections.
The first 5,000 is the deposit which allows Emily to pick her puppy and start training. If we can raise that in the next two weeks we can share this group effort with Emily and she will pick her puppy and start training. The training process takes about 10 months. Emily will go weekly for a few hours and unlike other locations Emily’s will be a part of the training process from the beginning. We will also take Emily and the puppy with the trainer to places that are triggers for Emily’s condition. This will help the trainer help both of them to overcome the challenges.
Thank You In Advance For Taking The Time To Read This.
Love you all,
Ilise
