Hi, my name is Allie this fundraising campaign was started to support the financial process of obtaining a service dog. For over 10 years I have struggled with various types of seizures. I have a type of epilepsy that is uncontrollable but more manageable with several types of medications. I have even had a surgery to implant a VNS (vagal nerve simulator). The VNS sends shocks to my brain and when I am having multiple small seizures, I can activate it with a magnet. I have also undergone several other surgeries to repair broken bones, not to mention the countless times I end up in an emergency room for other injuries. I am 25 years old and have never driven, cannot do most things young adults can do including holding a job due to the number and severity of seizures I incur daily. I am currently in the process of applying for SSDI but being only 25 and having not worked in 3 years, what I will be eligible for is minimal. The average cost of a seizure service dog is $15,000 - $50,000 which obviously is out of the realm of reality for me right now. Despite all this, I keep a positive attitude and have learned to make the best of the hand I was dealt. Most recently my neurologist suggested I get a service dog. Since then, I've done a ton of research on service dogs believe it may be a great option for me. Despite multiple medications and various surgeries my seizures are still unexplained and happen every day - the types and severity change. Recently, while visiting family in Montana I had a few seizures including a Tonic Clonic (Gran Mal) on the garage floor of my Uncles. Gus, his English Springer Spaniel, immediately came to my rescue and stayed with me while I was going through the postictal state. It is with my sincerest request that you consider donating. Your donation will not go unrecognized, and I will continue to keep this page up to date for the latest information on service dogs, and epilepsy. I have included a few attachments including letters from specialist indicating my inability to work, recommendation from my neurologist for a seizure dog, and for those of you that are brave in interested, a video of my last EEG where you can view what a Tonic Clonic looks like on an EEG and then my actual seizure at the time.
Also included are videos of an ER trip where I was coming out of IV sedation after having my dislocated shoulder put back into place.
