Story:
We are raising funds to bring A Fan of War, a powerful contemporary play by Ukrainian playwright Polina Polozhenseva, to the Voila! Theatre Festival in London.
This intimate and deeply human story follows Yasya, a Ukrainian woman living in the UK, as she tries to build a new life while her mother remains in a village under constant shelling in Ukraine. Moving between dark humor, tenderness, and raw honesty, the play explores love, distance, trauma, and the impossible normality of living through war — even when you are far away from it.
Through fragmented conversations, phone calls, and memories, A Fan of War reveals how war infiltrates everyday life: relationships, intimacy, and even the ability to feel joy. It asks a painful question:
How do you move forward when part of you is still living in a war zone?
The play has been newly reworked and translated into English, making it accessible to international audiences while preserving its authentic Ukrainian voice.
Why we need your support:
To participate in the Voila! Theatre Festival, we need to cover essential production costs for one performance:
* £165 – Festival registration fee
* £200 – Theatre rental
* £50 – Lighting equipment rental
Total: £415
This is the minimum required to present the show and share this important story with a wider audience in London.
Why it matters:
A Fan of War is not just a play — it is a testimony. It gives voice to those living between two realities: safety and war, love and loss, distance and responsibility.
By supporting this project, you are helping bring a Ukrainian story to an international stage, raising awareness, empathy, and understanding through theatre.
