A Chinese Children library: Raise asian awareness!

Want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money to start a library dedicated to Chinese language books for children and families to enjoy -- the first of its kind for the Peninsula community. Any amount will help! Your gift will be impactful and tax deductible. Our goal is to raise $100,000 for books, tables, chairs and library supplies. $15,000 will fund an education program for 20 kids to take and you can choose what program for the entire year 
$10,000 will fund free membership for 100 families
$5,000 will fund media resources for the entire year.
$2,500 will fund new books and toys for the entire year.
$1,000 will fund new books and toys for the entire year.
$500 will fund art supplies for classrooms the entire year
$250 will fund materials for classrooms the entire year

About Joy Culture Foundation

There are currently very few organizations dedicated to giving parents and children on the Peninsula resources for learning about Chinese language and culture through hands-on activities. The Chinese population of Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Redwood City, Atherton and San Carlos totals 258,000. The market need is strong within the Chinese community, not to mention many non-Chinese families looking for Chinese language and culture classes for their school-aged children, as evidenced by the growth of Chinese language immersion programs in both public and independent schools.

Lulu Roberts, Founder of Joy Culture Foundation, saw this unmet need when she was looking for Chinese programs and resources in the Mid-Peninsula which would expose her children to their heritage in a meaningful way.  While there were programs offering traditional bilingual education, there were no broad based interactive programs and limited library resources.  She soon realized that many other Chinese families in her community were looking for similar cultural programs that are convenient and accessible. Her community of parents were all looking for programs which are creative, interactive and engaging for their children, as well as looking for a way to build a community with others who shared a similar Chinese heritage.

The Joy Culture Foundation can effectively meet a great need in a healthy, growing market. Parents who have previously been unable to find good resources for Chinese books and cultural programs will now have a valuable resource that is geographically convenient. In addition, opening the program to others will help inform the broader community about Chinese culture and history. Post pandemic, many families are yearning to be reconnected to one another and the Joy Culture Foundation will build a strong community via Chinese language and culture immersion programs.

JCF through its library and programs will build a strong community of families interested in the Chinese language and culture. Other benefits to the community include:

Programs will build confidence, self-identity and self-awareness among children which nurtures their compassion and engagement as future community leaders.
Community centered programs will welcome families of ALL backgrounds and raise awareness and acceptance of Asian Americans in the community.
Inclusive programs will break down racial barriers between the Chinese Americans and the non-Chinese American community.
JCF’s visibility lifts its standing in the community as a valuable nonprofit providing services for not just Asian Americans but the community at large.
