My name is Al, and at just seventeen years old my life was changed forever. In the summer of 2023, I suffered a traumatic spinal cord injury. Now at nineteen, I live with quadriplegia. Every day since has been a battle. I have had to relearn what it means to live when even the simplest tasks—things most people don’t think twice about—are impossible without help. Yet, I refuse to give up hope.

Thanks to advances in medical treatment and continuous rehabilitation, there is a real possibility for recovery. Therapies such as epidural stimulation and stem cell treatment are helping people with injuries like mine regain movement, independence, and even the ability to walk again. With access to these treatments and consistent rehabilitation, I can begin to rebuild my life—not just to survive, but to thrive.

I dream of being able to move my arms again, to hug my family on my own, and to take part in the everyday joys that make life full. And I hold close the hope that one day I will be able to stand, walk, and embrace a future filled with possibilities.
