Our family was dealt a devastating blow April 6th by the very unexpected passing of my partner, co-parent, and best friend. His death has left us emotionally bereft, and we are having a difficult time navigating his absence in our lives.
He was an incredibly supportive and loving partner whose presence was allowing me to finish my Baccaulaureate in Sociology while also working full-time helping underserved populations receive grants for work and school themselves.

This GoFundMe is being set up as a means to provide access to necessary time for processing his death; for processing my personal grief; and to figure out logistically how to move forward as a family with single-earning income, childcare costs, missed work, etc.
My employers have been very gracious in empowering me to take off as much time as necessary for the grieving process. However, due to beginning my new employment only this past January, I'm a few weeks shy of being eligible to use my scarce PTO (Paid Time Off) and access FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) time for bereavement. Therefore, we're forced to take needed time off at significant cost to our family's financial wellbeing.
Our community has been incredibly supportive of our needs since his passing with friends setting up a Meal Train; friends doing laundry and dishes; and helping us set up the garden Leif and I had so scrutinized together over planning.

However, what we most need at this time is to be able to just simply sit with our grief and mourn. Any donations will be used toward preschool tuition, lost work days, cat food, and other costs associated with everyday life while we move forward with our lives.
Please, if you know someone suffering from depression, please do not hesitate to reach out to them and let them know you're there for them. Professional help is available to those in need; please don't wait until too long has passed.
