Unexpected Illness
Donation protected
On October 2nd, 2022, I woke up feeling sick and asked AJ to take me to the ER. I knew I hadn't been feeling well, but never could have imagined the way our lives were about to change.
I was immediately rushed to the ICU where it was determined that my liver was failing. Well, that was the "main" issue among a slew of other things. After 12 days in the ICU and nearly a month in the hospital, I was sent home to continue healing.
I found the most wonderful care team that I could not be more grateful to have! They have really watched over me through 3-4 doctors’ visits a week, blood transfusions, medication adjustments and overall well-being.
For a while, my body was responding well to medication, nutrition and regaining strength and balance. But, after just a few months my liver has healed as well as it ever can.
I've been set up with a surgical care team at the Anschutz Medical Campus who is ready to help me find a new liver. I just need to go through a few more tests for them to determine if my body is capable of handling the surgery and that it will not reject the new liver with proper, lifelong care.
AJ has been incredibly supportive and strong through this whole thing. He's taken care of me on days when I could not take care of myself. He goes to work every day, picking up overtime when he can, while managing to also make it to my most crucial appointments. When I was in the hospital, he would leave work, run home to give Avery (our fur baby) special attention, food and play time, then run back over to me, spend some time and tuck me into bed every night. Day after day, he's been our rock.
That being said, bills are finally starting to catch up with us. Between my time in the hospital and now, my main focus has been doctors’ appointments and healing, so I have not been able to work. I've also gained some extra medical expenses left over from my hospital stay in Oct, as well as items that are not covered by insurance.
We are asking for donations to help with medical care not covered by insurance, bills, gas and groceries. We will be going back and forth to Denver quite a bit over the next few months, so even enough for a gallon of gas would help! Anything you can contribute would be a huge help and greatly appreciated!
I am scared, but as ready as I'll ever be. The next time I see you, you can expect a thumbs up, a huge grin, and a "life is pretty damn wonderful!" from me.
Much Love, Danni & AJ Wilson
