Vex Robotics World Championships

Our school St. Manchans Tubber, Co. Offaly have qualified for the World Championships in Vex Robotics IQ in Dallas Texas May 2023

A team of young students from our small rural school St. Manchan’s NS Tubber, Co. Offaly have qualified for the Vex IQ Robotics World Championships in Dallas Texas, being held in May 2023.

Having first qualified from the regional midlands event, where they won 3 awards, they progressed on to the All Ireland series held in Co. Cork and following an excellent performance the team took home the Think Award and the Robot Skills Champion Award ensuring qualification to the VEX IQ Robotics World championships.

The Think Award is presented to a team that has developed and effectively used a quality program as part of their strategy to solve the game challenge. Teams must participate in the Autonomous skills challenge to be eligible for the Think award.

The Robot Skills Champion Award is presented to the team with the highest combined Programming Skills Challenge and Driving Skills Challenge score.

The winners of the Robot Skills competition qualified for the World Championships to be held in Dallas, Texas from the 2nd to the 4th of May 2023.

The team is made up of nine students and all are actively involved in the success of the team (on this successful journey). The tasks involved:

• Build the arena where the game is played on
• Build a robot that could interact with a series of complex machines that dispense disks that could then be maneuvered into a goal to score points
• Once the robot is built the children create code so that the robot will drive autonomously
• Driving the robot with a control
• create an engineering notebook and posters documenting each aspect of their journey from start to finish

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to enable children to participate in a growing and developing industry of robotics and STEM at such a young age and compete on a World stage against over 200 teams currently registered from places like New Zealand, China, UAE, USA, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and many more

Whilst this is an exceptional opportunity, you can appreciate it comes with costs so we are reaching out to you to request your support in funding this opportunity for our young team on their journey to Dallas, and further enhancement of the STEM development in our school.
