Thank you to dear friend Phoenix P. for writing this:
On March 23rd, 2024, our vibrant and beloved friend, sister, daughter, and fellow inhabitant of this wonderful planet received news that shook her world to its core. Mary was diagnosed with aggressive cervical cancer, a devastating blow that no one ever wants to face. On April 2nd, 2024, she's gearing up for a battle as she undergoes a hysterectomy and lymph node removal to evict the unwelcome troublemaker wreaking havoc in her body. The road to recovery from this surgery is estimated to be 6-8 weeks long, with the possibility of additional treatments like chemotherapy to prevent the cancer from spreading further.
In the midst of this medical rollercoaster that began in mid-January when doctors ordered her to quit her job due to physical labor, Mary has rightfully made her health her number one priority. But she can't do it alone. She needs a helping hand to navigate the practical challenges that come with treatment—rent, the hefty cost of living in Portland (seriously, it's no joke), groceries, pre-op and post-op essentials, meal deliveries for at least a month to keep her nourished, and the costs of in-home care for assistance with day-to-day tasks during her recovery.
But it's not just financial support Mary seeks. She's craving the warmth and companionship of her friends, her community. We will be organizing a sign-up sheet for those willing to donate their time, love, and positive energy. Volunteers can lend a hand with meal drop-offs, share tea and snacks, chat over FaceTime, send loving texts and calls, and, above all, share some laughs. If you're eager to lend a hand and be part of Mary's support crew, please stay tuned to this page. We will be adding details for a sign-up sheet soon.
Let's show Mary that she's not alone in this fight, that she's surrounded by love, support, and unwavering friendship every step of the way!
