On September 5th, 2019 at 2:30 am Larry received the call of a lifetime. After 2 years and 9 months of dialysis, they had a donor kidney for him. We rushed to get ready and made it to the hospital by 3am.
Due to him being on blood thinners he had to get several bags of fresh frozen plasma to prep him for surgery, and the donor kidney had to be transported to Kansas University Medical Center. So his transplant surgery finally began at 3pm. Larry spent 12 days in the hospital, and is now home trying to recover. But he still has to return to KU several times a week for follow ups and labs. As of current the donor kidney still has not woken up, but this can happen.
Larry will have to remain off of work for at least 3 months to fully recover, and Karen (his wife) has had to take off for at least this first month to help care for him, and to get him to and from doctors appointments and dialysis while he is recovering. Any monies raised will help cover expenses (ie co-pays, medications, fuel, and bills) while both Larry and Karen are off of work. Thank you for all the thoughts on prayers on this journey. And a huge thank you to the donor and donor family.
