As most of my family and friends now know, I was in an accident recently that resulted in a week long hospital stay and surgery. In an attempt to minimize injury while snowboarding, I opted to take a fall versus collide with a skier who cut me off. Initially I thought I broke a rib and went to the on-site emergency room at the Keystone resort. Upon doing an ultrasound they found bleeding in my spleen and had an ambulance take me to a local hospital in Frisco. The doctors there did a CAT Scan and confirmed that my spleen had ruptured and was most likely in need of surgery. I was transferred to St. Andrew's hospital in Denver via a helicopter to discuss my surgical options, and it was confirmed that I had a level-5 spleen injury. After 2 days in the ICU, the doctors repeated the CAT Scan and found that my spleen was still bleeding, and not healing on their own as they had hoped. I was immediately taken into an operating room where the surgeons placed 3 coiling systems in my spleen to stop the bleeding. In total, I spent just under a week in the hospital. Without insurance, I am responsible to come up with sufficient funds to cover an ambulance ride, helicopter ride, ICU stay, surgery, anesthesia, two CAT Scans and numerous other charges associated with a hospital stay and surgery. I am currently not able to work, as directed by my surgeon. Aside from not having my normal income to help pay for living expenses, I am also unable to afford my medical charges. It seems like a lot, I know. I am working with the hospital, as well as my employer, to help offset these cost through different program offerings. Without yet receiving all of my bills, I am expecting to have to pay over $50K. This is just medical expenses and does not cover my daily living expenses. I hoping that you will find that you are able to assist me in raising enough money to promptly pay for my expenses. I greatly appreciate any assistant you are able to provide, and will do my best to one day pay it forward to someone else in need.
