Hi. It's Leigh, Giovanni's human mom. Giovanni, a greyhound, was in an accident, and the events following this awful moment have led me to create this fundraiser.

I adopted Giovanni, a former racing dog, when he was almost two. Most of you who know me know I drive across the country with him each year to work in Colorado. While in Colorado a few weeks ago, he was at a daycare while I was working in Chicago, and he fell down stairs. After several days, he started bleeding profusely from his nose and mouth, and we visited veterinarians in Aspen and Carbondale, Colorado. I drove back from Colorado to DC with Giovanni while he was very unwell and a cascade of issues presented. Simultaneously, I had taken two weeks off to have a planned medical procedure that was scheduled months ago, and I worked to ensure I had ample funds for the time off. (I am and will be fine.) When I underwent my procedure a few days ago, Giovanni was taken to South Paws emergency vet in Fairfax, Virginia, and he underwent a battery of tests leading to multiple medications to uncover why his bleeding was so profuse. We are still working on it. This has led to the possibility of seeing an oncologist for something seen on his shoulder in an x-ray. His vet bills are currently at close to $5,000 and we have more visits and specialists upcoming that will certainly be in the thousands.

This is hard and very emotional for me because I plan so diligently (as we all do), and I could not have foreseen that while I took off weeks of work for my own procedure, that he would be going through this, so I'm taking care of him now, and always will.

With all of this said, I give my word that I will donate back or pay back anyone who would like me to moving forward. Vets don't often permit payment plans. I've taken out CareCredit as well and just need to get through this time with him.
