A Heart for Braden

Thank you for taking some time to learn about my nephew, Braden. He is the oldest son of my brother, Brior and my sister in law, Chelsey. They live in Houston Texas with Braden's siblings Alyssa (20), Carter (13), Emily (7) and Henry (9 months). Braden is a joyful, caring, energetic 15 year old boy that is fighting for his life. When Braden was born he was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS), a congenital heart defect where the left side of the heart does not form properly. After 3 open heart surgeries, constant treatment and countless procedures, he has reached the end stage of where his heart can take him. Now, doctors say a heart transplant is critical to his survival.

Braden loves to fish, watch New Orleans Saints football and spend time with his younger siblings. He was looking forward to trying out for his high school basketball team and wants nothing more than spend his life helping others overcome challenges they face in life. 

Braden is now at Texas Children's Hospital where he will be until a heart transplant donor is found. This is an incredibly difficult time for Braden and his family as they care for Braden while trying to figure out how to keep their life as normal as possible for his 3 younger siblings who are at home. To say that they have been overwhelmed the last couple days would be an understatement. 

So many people have reached out to ask how they can help or support Braden and his family so we established this campaign to alleviate some burden and anxiety around the cost associated with caring for Braden now, during his recovery and for the rest of his life post surgery.
