ASKING FOR A FRIEND...

You don't know Sallie.  Ok, maybe you do, but if you do - you know that she is a rock.  A stalwart friend that would give you her time, support and anything she could to help you out.

I met Sallie when she joined the San Jose Pop Up Choir a few years ago and in very short order I can honestly say she has become a close friend that I have come to cherish.  Scratch that, she is family.  And when there are tough things happening within our "family" we find a way to help each other out.

Best I let Sallie tell you a little bit in her own words:

"In early December my mom, Debbie Rupe, underwent a comprehensive physical exam in Texas, from which she was diagnosed with very early stage endometrial cancer on 12/27/2019. The assessment news was as good as it possibly could be, and the oncologist is very confident that all of the cancer is confined to her uterus and will be completely removed with a total hysterectomy.

I flew out here yesterday, and spent today shopping for the things we need to settle into our Airbnb condo for a few weeks. My dad, who had to go back to Mexico to finish a few things, flew back up today. My brother is supporting from Indianapolis. Tomorrow, Tuesday, January 21, we will take my mom to the hospital at 5:30am for her surgery.

The one possible hitch is that her potassium levels came back low on her pre-op labs yesterday. She was prescribed a strong supplement to take today, and hopefully the levels will be good enough tomorrow to proceed with the surgery.

We have tremendous peace about this. If you are going to get cancer this is the one to get, and everything does appear to be very straightforward. We have felt a tremendous amount of love and support from our family and friends, and continue to covet prayers."

SALLIE TOOK A LEAVE OF ABSENCE

Sallie was incredibly straightforward with us and we did what we could to send her on her way, but she knew she would be gone for six weeks for sure.

She took a leave of absence from work, that would be the nonprofit she works at working with survivors of torture and other atrocities, then she left to go help out with her mom & dad in Texas (both are missionaries - seriously, you are starting to see how helping out might be in your kharmic best interest).

She has not asked for a thing.  Except good thoughts and prayers.

THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN.

We want to raise funds to help defray the added expense of travel, the additional expenses of hospital care, heck - maybe a couple bags of doritos, but whatever we can do - this is our opportunity to give back to someone that would never ask for help.

We, the San Jose Pop Up Choir will be having a special karaoke marathon session on Feb 14th (no better time to express your love for someone) and we will sing, like our hearts have never sung before as we will be conducting a 24 hr marathon where a song will continue to be sung (different songs naturally) from Feb 14th at 8pm through Feb 15th at 8pm.

I will be there the entire time, less a quick 20 min nap here or there and we have singers that are lining up to sing songs for Sallie and her mom, but if you could donate $5 we will sing a song for you. Just send us a comment after you donate and we will sing it in your honor.

If you can donate $25 and request a song, we will record it and post it on Facebook dedicated to you - during the marathon.

If you donate $60 or more and request a song, we will record it, put it on Facebook LIVE and send you a special San jose Pop Up Choir t-shirt - because you are awesome.

Now if you only have a buck, send it over, love comes in all sizes and if you do not have a buck, repost this wherever you can and help spread the word, especially as it gets closer to Feb 14th.

Also, good thoughts and prayers are gladly accepted.

All proceeds from this GoFundMe will be sent directly to Sallie and her family to use in whatever way might help.  All facilities, equipment, beverages and food for the marathon will be supplied by Harmony Werks - the new nonprofit we are starting, to do exactly what we are doing here...

...engaging a community of creative artist to discover and appreciate art and find ways to give back to the people that need help the most.

Please join us as we sing the body electric and create a joyous noise together, because only by working together, does harmony work.
