We are Trevor Yocum's aunt and cousins.
Our lives forever changed on April 20, 2021, when Trevor suddenly passed away. Trevor was a beloved husband, father, son, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. Anyone who was lucky enough to meet and know Trevor can attest to his kindness, generosity, and love for his family and friends. Trevor’s wife Stephanie and his 3 year-old son Jackson were the center of his world.
Trevor first went into the hospital on April 8, 2021, with a severe cough, chest pain, and difficulty breathing. He tested negative for COVID, and while his condition worsened, answers regarding the cause of his symptoms remained elusive.
Stephanie fought fervently to get Trevor transferred to Shands, the teaching hospital in Gainesville. Doctors at Shands were able to diagnose Trevor with Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis (GPA, formerly known as Wegener’s Disease), an extremely rare disease that affects less than 200,000 people per year. After the diagnosis and while treating his symptoms, Trevor’s care team found air between his thoracic and abdominal cavities, and had to perform exploratory surgery to find the cause and fix it. Unfortunately, the surgery did not go well, and Trevor went into cardiac arrest with a pulmonary embolism. The doctors performed chest compressions for almost an hour, but his already tired body was unable to handle it. Stephanie was by his side when they stopped compressions.
Knowing Jackson will grow up without his father will be an enduring sadness for his family and friends. The money will be used to support Jackson's growth and education-- as Trevor would have wanted. All gifts will be transferred to a Trust that the family is setting up for Jackson.
Thank you. Susan Yocum Rauch, Ada Rauch, and Maya Parsons.
