Hi everyone. As some may know, my dad, Bill Duenges, was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, an aggressive blood cancer. For the past ten years, he has been in and out of the hospital, exhausting multiple treatments, including a stem cell transplant, numerous rounds of radiation and chemotherapy, and countless medications.
In 2023, he was diagnosed with plasma-cell leukemia and underwent extensive treatment. Luckily, the treatment worked, but it left him extremely weak and in constant pain, all while still fighting Multiple Myeloma.
Fast forward to this year, in October of 2024, we received devastating news that he had developed Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML), along with Multiple Myeloma. On October 18, 2024, he entered the hospital to receive treatment for CML. What was supposed to be a quick visit ended up truly altering all of my family's lives, when during this time my dad had suffered from a major stroke. He was unable to receive proper stroke treatment due to dangerously low blood levels due to both of his cancers, leaving the left side of his body paralyzed.
He was in the hospital for a month, where he received several blood transfusions, antibiotics for a severe infection, extremely intense chemotherapy called DCEP, but was officially (and finally) released to a rehabilitation center where he is attempting to get strength and movement back on his left side. Although in rehab, my dad still has to visit the hospital numerous times a week where he gets transported by ambulance.
These life changes have resulted in both of my parents taking long-term leave from work. We desperately want our dad to come home, however there are many accommodations we must make to our house, including expensive equipment, such as 24-hr nursing care, a ramp, a wheelchair, and a hospital bed, just to name a few.
If you could find it in your heart to help my family bring my dad home and alleviate medical bills, please consider donating. Thank you for reading, we are truly so grateful to those thinking of us and sending their prayers. My dad is the core of our family and we would do anything to bring him home. Thank you again.
