Hello! My name is Christina. Nick is my daughter's significant other. Nick and Alissa are both York College nursing students. This past week has been a whirlwind of unexpected and emotional events. I'm coming to this platform in hopes of being able to help this young man!

Monday morning Nick woke up with his right arm severely swollen; after a trip to urgent care, they sent him to the ER for an ultrasound. That revealed a large blood clot in his brachial, subclavian and axillary veins. This clot was very close to his lungs, and the doctors said he was fortunate to have caught this in time. They started him on a heparin drip immediately. The doctors recommended he undergo a lysis procedure that breaks up the clots. Nick had that procedure this morning. He's still at York Hospital and resting. During that procedure, they discovered he has a very rare condition called thoracic outlet syndrome. The only way to fix this would be to remove his first rib on his right side, unkinking the vein and stopping the clotting. This procedure isn't done often and has MAJOR risks involved. We are looking for a thoracic surgeon confident enough to perform the surgery. The doctor's have speculated that this may have been related to the COVID booster shot (Moderna) that he received a week ago. Never the less this is going to be a long and strenuous process with lots of PT afterward.

Nick is 20 years old, pursuing his dream of being an anesthesiologist, working through college, and paying for an apartment. Now he has a future of unknowns. So I am asking for any help! Referral of a surgeon, financial help and/or thoughts and prayers because he and his family will need it!!!!
