My name is Melissa (better known as Gatsbys mom) and I have created this page to help support this young family of five( along with their 3 bullies) as they struggle both emotionally and financially to try to help their boy Louie.
Last Thursday Louie (Gatsby's brother) was severely attacked in his own front yard by a neighborhood dog. Since then he has been receiving extensive ongoing veterinary care. On Sunday (8/1), his mom took him to the ER Vet where he was diagnosed with acute facial Cellulitis (an infection of the tissue in the face). They wanted to perform a simple sedation procedure on him to ensure there were no abscesses. During sedation, Louie's heart stopped beating and he received CPR a total of 3 times and then went into Anaphylactic Shock from a combination of meds, the extreme swelling, and his severe infection; Louie had to be intubated....Once all medication was reversed, he woke up and the tube was taken out. He is now home, however as a result of the severity of the trauma and the cellulitis the bad tissue is falling off and this will cause some intense scarring in the months to come. His mom is having to treat him around the clock and has had to take time off from her job to do this. His family has been told to expect anywhere from 6-9 months of recovery, as well as a big concern for the possibility of behavioral issues down the road.
Today they are taking him to Purdue University to see a soft tissue specialist due to the extreme severity of his condition. We will keep you posted as his treatment continues.
As you can only imagine this family of fives vet bills are astronomical, with no end in sight any where in the near future. This family is beyond devastated as Louie is their little baby. Since the attack, his "safe spot" is under the kids bed where he once would normally be cuddled up with his "hooman boys" under the covers :(
Everyone is praying for a full recovery but this family has a very long road ahead of them . Anything that you can do to help is greatly appreciated! I've always told people that one of the great things about owning a bull terrier, is not only the joy they bring you with their breed, but the community that you build with their owners as well. Below are some pics of him currently as well as in happier times with his kids....WARNING that some of these images are graphic.....Please pray for this sweet boys recovery!
