Stop Staveley Solar Farm Rutland

Donation protected
Rutland Solar Action Group is raising £10,000 for professional planning and legal support to stop Staveley Solar Farm, between the villages of Pilton, Morcott and Wing in Rutland. We are in favour of renewable energy, but oppose Staveley Solar Farm which would result in the loss of 200 acres of farmland and pose a threat to nature, including the lapwing, a red list conservation bird present on the site. We believe solar panels should go on industrial buildings, over car parks and on house roofs – but not on farmland. (More than 60% of our food is imported and it is essential the UK maintains food security.) Staveley Solar Farm is one of four industrial solar farms proposed for Rutland, England's smallest county, that could eventually cover 2-3% of the county’s land area, way beyond the 0.3% national target set by government to meet net zero climate goals. Joint developer Anglian Water, which is 85% overseas owned, will receive virtually all the energy generated enabling it to reduce costs and increase profitability, while simultaneously increasing water prices for consumers to pay for sewage spills and excessive executive pay. Together, as a community, we’re campaigning and raising funds to stop this industrial development and corporate profiteering, protect Rutland farmland and food security, and force the Government to produce joined-up policy and regulation for renewable energy. Initially we are seeking to raise £10,000 to engage planning consultants and a barrister. Please consider donating at least £20-£50 person to allow us to become effective in our opposition. (If you would like to be a named donor please donate more than this).
While we cannot guarantee success in defeating the planning application, employing experienced professionals will give us the best chance. All monies donated will be used wisely. In the case that funds remain after the planning process, we will contact everyone who has subscribed to Rutland Solar Action and propose a selection of community projects and relevant charities for the money to be redistributed to.
Thank you for your support.
