Remembering Dick Tein

A. Richard “Dick” Tein, age 70 of Hugo passed away on the morning of October 10, 2018, as a result of complications after a long fight against lymphoma.
Dick grew up in Falcon Heights, attended Ramsey High School, and Hamline University where he was a member of the swim team. Dick enlisted in the US Navy during the Vietnam War, and was stationed in Guam and Scotland. After his service Dick began his career as an Electrical Engineer at Medtronic where he spent the next 30 years.
Dick was an avid tennis player and he competed regionally and nationally, creating lifelong friendships along the way. Throughout his life Dick excelled at many sports, including hockey, tennis, triathlons, biking, cross country skiing, downhill skiing, sailing and golf. Dick was an excellent cook and enjoyed hosting family and friends. He also enjoyed a good bottle of wine, music, playing his guitars and took pride in his Scotch collection. He was a talented woodworker and built many “DickDecks” throughout the years.
A Celebration of Dick’s Life is scheduled for November 4, 2018 at 11:00 am. It will be held at Jimmy’s Event Center, 3565 Labore Rd, Vadnais Heights, MN 55110.
Dick will be dearly missed by his loving wife Mary Jo (Franklin) and his beloved golden retriever Tofte, along many dear friends and extended family members. So many were touched by his kind spirit and generosity. Thanks also to Dr. Cheema and the oncology nurses at St. John’s Hospital.
