Let’s help Stacy!

Hey everyone,

I'm reaching out to you all about a fundraiser for Stacy McGarry, who really needs our help.

Stacy went through a rough time recently. She spent 10 days at Vassar Brothers hospital dealing with intense neck and head pain, exhaustion, facial paralysis and a decline in her cognitive function. Unfortunately, she was sent home without a clear diagnosis. She advocated for herself and sought out a specialist. Thankfully they found answers and diagnosed her with Cranial Cervical Instability (CCI) causing neurovascular compromise from a severe rotation of c1/c2. In layman’s terms that means the ligaments at the top of her spine are loose, causing her vertebrae to rotate. That rotation is cutting off the blood flow to her brain, causing brain damage and compressing nerves, causing nerve damage.

The good news is Stacy's specialist thinks with treatment she can avoid a spinal fusion surgery. She also thinks with treatment she can regain at least 80% of her cognitive function. The bad news? Her insurance won't cover these treatments. Our goal was to raise $3,000 to cover at least half the cost of the 8-weeks of treatment they predict she will need. The total cost of her treatments will be around $6,000. Thanks to everyone's generosity we've reached 3000! Now lets keep going and get her to 6000 so she doesn't have to worry about money and can focus on healing.

For those of you who personally know Stacy, you already know she is an amazing person who would drop everything to help someone else, friend or stranger. She has jumped through so many hurdles in life and never asks for help or complains. I met Stacy over 15 years ago as an EMT. Over those years she completed her paramedic to further serve the public. Today she serves as a 911 dispatcher for Dutchess County, but without these treatments she may never be able to return to a career she loves. Now she needs our help.
