It is said that every 2 seconds a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States. It becomes a reality when it hits close to home. We are asking for your support for Nancy. She is an amazing mother to her son Ian, and loving wife to her husband, Mario. Many of you that know Nancy and Robert, know that their son Ian requires special time and effort. Her life revolves around caring for this precious boy night and day. Just recently she was diagnosed with breast cancer and has begun treatment.
Perseverance has always been an integral part of who Nancy is. Growing up in Colombia, she had dreams of pursuing her career in Mexico. Through hard work and her determination, she finished and began the next step of her goals: moving to California. It was here she met Robert and with whom she had Ian, the love of their life. The immense joy that he brings into their daily lives is indescribable. Those of you who have met Ian know that his contagious smile and cheerful spirit is one that only acts to bring happiness into the lives of others. Due to his own struggles with Spina Bifida, DiGeorge Syndrome, and hearing loss, these past years have been a challenge for Nancy, but one that she has taken on with ease. Extraordinary moms are far and few, but her strong-willed spirit through this extensive medical journey with Ian has shown that her character and love are of unbridled levels.
A diagnosis of breast cancer is difficult for anyone in any situation. These events are never planned or occur when life is at its easiest. Through the hardship of this news for Nancy, she had initially planned to void chemotherapy due to the immense challenges this would be for Ian. Time spent away from him means a dedicated medical team that can take care of his needs and still provide the love of a dedicated mother. Through time and consideration, she decided that undergoing chemotherapy was the best outcome for herself, Roberto and Ian. She began this in October of this year and though it has been a difficult battle she is continuing in her fight against breast cancer.
In spite of these challenges, those around Nancy have stepped up to help in different ways to help offset the costs of her chemotherapy and support for Ian. Through fundraisers, church cookouts, and selling of t-shirts, her community and church friends have rallied to support her in this fight. Through a constant shuffling of family members, we have each added the title of babysitters to our resume and have take time to provide care for Ian. Through the love in our family, we have sought to provide meals, accomplishment in daily tasks, and emotional support whenever possible.
Yet in spite of this, the largest hurdle is the economic toll this is taking on Nancy and her family. We are asking for your support as she takes undergoes this chemotherapy. In spite of her challenges, Nancy continues to stay optimistic and trust that God will lead them in their proper direction. Thank you for your support.
