Help a Veteran Save His Home
ROUND 2 OF FUNDRAISING EFFORTS
THIS IS A TIME SENSITIVE AND EMERGENCY SITUATION!
Before reading this, please understand that the veteran and this need have been vetted, and he has the paperwork needed to substantiate this need for assistance.
Through donations made via this GoFundMe page and direct cash donations, this veteran is very close to reaching the 1st round fundraising goal that was set at $2,500. The $2,500 will go directly toward retaining legal representation for a housing issue the veteran is currently facing. He and his family are on the verge of homelessness.
The veteran lives in North Central Alabama, and he is married with 4 children. He served in the United States Army, and he was honorably discharged. He is a disabled war veteran who proudly served his country overseas in an imminent danger area. Now, he is a public servant, and he volunteers his time to assist children and veterans in need. He is a selfless person, and he is now in need of assistance himself!
4 years ago, this veteran entered into a written rent-to-own agreement for a property that he and his family currently reside in. The veteran never filed this agreement with the court because he didn't know he needed to. The veteran paid the monthly mortgage every month since the agreement became effective. Because of poor credit issues, the veteran could not have the mortgage loan in his name, so he paid the mortgage directly to the bank while the amount of the loan remained financed in the name of another man. This was a mistake by the veteran.
Recently, the other man sold the property, without notice to the veteran, to a different individual. The individual saw this as an investment opportunity. He bought the property for the loan payoff amount, which was approximately $25,000. His plans were to flip the property for a quick sale of $100,000, earning himself a quick $75,000 in the process. He is pursuing this plan without regard to the veteran, his family, or the veterans' personal investment on this property.
In order to flip the property for a quick sale, this man had to initiate eviction proceedings through the Alabama courts system to force the veteran and his family out of the property. The veteran was forced to obtain an attorney and was thankfully able to defeat the eviction process in court. The veteran spent the last of his savings to fight the eviction in court.
The other man immediately responded to the courts' decision of dismissal by filing an order of ejectment with the Alabama courts. The veteran has been served with ejection orders where he was ordered to vacate the property. 2 weeks ago, the veteran was given 30 days to file a response in this matter. Time is running out!
Now, the veteran needs funds to retain legal representation to fight the ejection efforts. Round 1 of fundraising resulted in the veteran almost raising the full amount of $2,500. More is needed, though.
If the veteran beats this ejectment effort, he may have to end up paying the payoff amount of approximately $25,000 (if not more) plus additional costs for liens that have been imposed on this property. The veteran does not have the financial means to do this. This is why he entered the rent-to-own agreement the way he did in the first place.
If the ejectment case ends in favor of the veteran, we will pursue the option of purchasing the home for the payoff amount of approximately $25,000. If we are given this opportunity and we have the funds to payoff the loan, we will do that and cease fundraising efforts.
If more money is needed to pay the asking price of $100,000 or to pay off liens imposed on the property, we will pursue Round 3 of fundraising efforts.
The veteran was misled, and he has been wronged. He is working diligently to keep his home, but he is financially tapped out. This is why he needs the help of his community. He is working to protect his wife and 4 children by continuing to provide them with sufficient shelter.
