9th Bomba Research Conference

It has been 10 years since the Bomba Research Conference was moved from Chicago to Puerto Rico. Since that time, the conference took on the focus of utilizing historic sites for Bomba practice and incorporating the elderly eye witnesses, descendants and practitioners who connect us to the Bomba of yesteryear. However, this convening retains its original intent - to gather the Bomba culture bearers, performers, students and supporters to celebrate one of Puerto Rico’s oldest creole traditions and the African ancestors and their descendants who shaped it. Join us in Puerto Rico this Labor Day weekend Sept 3-6, 2021 as we continue to explore the little known people, obscure knowledges and largely unseen spaces of traditional Bomba.

Since the first conference in 2005, this has always been a grassroots effort that is free and open to the public. It takes us together in commUnity for this to happen every two years.
