Supporting Alexander
Donation protected

Our friend Alexander MacDonald—24 years old and full of energy, ambition, strength, and kindness—recently faced a terrifying and unexpected turn in life. Originally from Head of Saint Margaret’s Bay, Nova Scotia, Alexander moved to Calgary last year to begin a career in Finance with Precision Drilling. But earlier this week, a sudden brain bleed revealed a tumor in the front left hemisphere of his brain.
Surgery took place right away, and Alexander is now recovering in hospital in Calgary. While we are beyond thankful for the swift medical response, the emotional and financial toll of being so far from home is enormous. That’s why we are coming together to support Alexander in the way he’s always reacted to those around him—with heart, humour, and a whole lot of love.
From his years playing high school and TASA minor hockey, to his time at Bayview High and Acadia University, Alexander has built a tight-knit circle of friends—almost like a chosen family that now stretches across the country.
He's also got a strong and close family. His parents are Christina McGovern and the late Art MacDonald (1964–2018), and he's the older brother of Adam and Olivia. His grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles are all pulling for him too. Though no 24-year-old should ever learn the depth of their community through crisis, we want to make sure Alexander feels the full strength of his incredible network—at home in Nova Scotia, out West, and beyond.
Your support will help cover the many unexpected costs of recovery, travel, and the challenges of being far from home. More than anything, it will remind Alexander that wherever he is, he’s never alone.
Thank you for your support. Every gesture, share, and donation means the world
