Stand By Stacy - Update

Donation protected
Sunday, October 25, at 4:30 in the morning, while Stacy was driving her sick dog to the animal emergency room in Fountain Valley, she was hit by a drunk driver going over 100 miles per hour.  Her car rolled a few times and hit the center divider, trapping her in the car and ejecting her little dog.  The County Fire authorities rushed her to UCI Medical Center, where she spent 10 hours in surgery to save her life.  She was placed in the ICU, where she was sedated for a week.  The serious injuries to her head, arm, ribs, lungs and leg required several surgeries in the next few weeks, including one to amputate part of her arm.  Stacy still does not understand the extent of her injuries, where she is, the loss of her arm, and the death of her beloved dog, Sadie.

Stacy was born at Long Beach Memorial Hospital, attended Kettering Elementary, Rogers Jr. High and Wilson High School and then went on to UCSB to get her degree and teaching credential.  She presently teaches at Roosevelt Elementary School, where she is adored by her third graders, as well as the staff.

This accident has made it abundantly clear just how many lives she has touched and how loved she is. The outpouring of love and concern for Stacy is overwhelming.  There is a Facebook page created by her many friends to volunteer and organize help for Stacy as she deals with a very long road to recovery.  Teachers throughout LBUSD are donating sub days to her so she can continue to get paid longer.  Others are participating in food trains for her family, taking shifts at the hospital, bringing snacks for the family and nurses, caring for her cat, cleaning her house, and sending encouraging messages daily.

This is Stacy’s twentieth year as a teacher, and her plans to retire one day with her well-earned retirement are now in question. No one knows what her future holds, if or when she will return to teaching, or when she might make a full recovery.  But we do know that she will require help with living expenses, cost of medical care, and a new car.  We think a Go Fund Me campaign would answer the question so many people are asking, “What can we do to help?”

Stacy’s sweetness, passion for life, generous heart, and very funny personality are shining through as she bravely struggles to recover.  Please consider helping her.  Thank you.
