On June 15, 2018, my cousin, Kim Lowry, was diagnosed with breast cancer. She underwent a double mastectomy, which revealed that the cancer had spread into her chest wall. Further investigation revealed metastasized cancer in her spinal fluid and brain.
Kim underwent 5 different types of chemotherapy, but her cancer did not respond to any of the regimens. She is now on her 6th regimen, Methotrexate. While it is too soon to say whether the most recent chemotherapy will have any effect, she has been given a very poor prognosis.
Kim is being treated at Brookhaven Hospital on Long Island. She recently had a consultation at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City and may receive treatment there in the future if a different course of treatment is recommended.
Kim's cancer has strained her family's financial situation. Due to her cancer, Kim had to quit working and is nearing the end of her medical insurance coverage through COBRA. Kim has been advised that she may need to go out of pocket for future treatment. We are raising funds to pay for Kim's future medical expenses that are not covered by insurance, Medicaid, or non-profit assistance Kim may be eligible for. We are also raising funds to support Kim's 2 year old daughter, Ariya.
My family is organizing a fundraising event for her that will be held on Long Island on January 27th, 2019 and that is when we would like to present her with whatever money we can raise through this.
Thank you in advance for any contribution you may be able to give.
