In September of 2021, my sister, Kelsey Vernon, was diagnosed with stage two breast cancer. The official name of the type of cancer she has is called BRCA 1, triple-negative breast cancer. This type of cancer is less than 10% of all breast cancer diagnoses and has a significant chance of later developing ovarian cancer if not treated properly.
So far, Kelsey has been able to complete 4 chemotherapy treatments, separated at three weeks apart. She is now close to ending her 12 weekly chemotherapy treatments that are planned to be finished by May 20th, granite her body continues to react and tolerate well. In conjuncture with chemotherapy, she is also on immunotherapy that will last until October of 2022.
She has always been a woman constantly involved in the community, church, and growing profession as a Pediatric Occupational Therapy Assistant. Thankfully, Kelsey has been able to work part-time through telehealth OT services while getting treatment, but soon she will be needing time off for her upcoming Bilateral Mastectomy surgery on June 9th. She anticipates recovery being 4-6 weeks, then the breast reconstruction process begins taking (9-12 months).
I can confidently say we believe she will be okay and proclaiming she will be healed after treatment and all cancer be removed during surgery! From her supporters, family, and friends, we know God will make a way through this. We certainly would cherish any amount donated to help during this extensive journey to go towards multiple co-pays, groceries, and added unexpected medical/personal expenses. We greatly appreciate the prayers and support!!!
