Help Peggy Survive at Home

Imagine not taking a shower for over a year. Not even a real bath. My mom, Peggy West, suffered a massive, near fatal stroke on June 11, 2014. Not only did she survive the stroke, but she has since survived negligence at the hands of rehab facilities to the tune of six hospital visits while at one facility, to include a broken hip. Then a broken femur at the next facility. She was maintaining at the second facility until their corporate owner emptied mom and dad's bank account through "emergency" legal action without any sort of notification to our family whatsoever. Three days before my sister was going to have a contractor start work to make her house handicap accessible for mom. Marcy still managed to move mom to her house where mom is FAR more comfortable, being well and constantly cared for. However, Marcy's home was built in the mid 80's and has a very small powder room on the main floor of the house. The main floor has been set up as a makeshift nursing/ rehab facility. The only showers are upstairs. Mom still can't walk. She still has no leg strength. The contractor that Marcy had lined up is amazing. Even with what little money Marcy was able to scrape together, he scaled down the plans massively and at least made her house accessible for a wheel chair, which has permitted mom to sit outside on nice days. It takes two people to get mom from the bed to the wheel chair. Marcy needs a pneumatic lift (which by itself costs over $2,000) but more pressing is the shower. The contractor told Marcy that basically for the cost of the supplies, he would build a shower on the main floor that they could at least use to run hot water over mom. Right now Marcy is STILL fighting the nursing home owners to recoup the money they shouldn't have taken. It costs money to hire an attorney. Marcy still has her own bills to pay, her dogs to take care and work her full time job. Her health has taken a major hit and her stress level is through the roof. We're asking our friends and family to help us with the $2,000 cost of having a shower built for mom. And if you feel moved and have to ability to also help fund the lift to save Marcy's back (and that's serious...there's no humor in that comment, only fact) then please do so... It would be appreciated beyond words. Our part of the family has NEVER asked for financial assistance from anyone but our own family. But because of circumstances waaaaaaaaay beyond our control, we are asking my friends, Marcy's friends and even some of the family members who for years benefitted from the generosity of mom and dad, for some help. We know that no one can afford a big chunk... but if just 20 or 30 of my friends find it in their heart to donate $5 or $10 dollars, that will put us well on our way. If you can spare $15 or $20, then that would be even more helpful. To our family members, Mom's care costs about $93,600 per year, and that's just for five days a week. Marcy is covering two days a week. No break, no chance to get out of the house. Mom requires around the clock nursing care. NONE of it is covered by insurance. It's all coming out of dad's retirement. He's retired from the federal govt and I can tell you that his total retirement BEFORE having to pay for insurance isn't even close to that amount. It's actually about $10k less per year. Marcy is covering that $10K out of her pocket. We're only asking for help for the shower. $2,000 dollars. ANY help would be greatly appreciated.
