Hello, my name is Anne! I am creating this donation page on Desi Werner's behalf. Let me tell you why... I have been friends with Desi for 12 years. Not long after our friendship began Desi was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Through that experience we learned that having a cancer of the immune system complicates all parts of life. At the time Desi was in college. She experienced difficulty with transportation, neutropenia (too little of the cells that prevent you from getting infections), and meeting educational deadlines during treatment. Despite those challenges, Desi completed treatment during that time and was considered cured.
Sadly, as many of you already know she is currently experiencing a relapse of the same cancer. This time around life is a lot more complicated. Desi has a home and two children to care for Ariel (Age 4) and Jasmine (Age 1). She also works full time caring for others as a nurse in a transplant clinic. Not only is life more complicated but the treatment plan this time around is looking more complicated. Treatment will be about a year and the plan ends in stem cell transplant.
I myself no longer live with or near Desi as I did in college. I am expecting a new baby anytime now. I find myself desperately wanting to help but physically unable to do so. That is why I am creating this donations page. Desi has already experienced so many words of support and that makes a world of difference. However, if you are like me and want to do more then this page will be here to accept donations along the way.
Donations will go towards the following things:
- ER visit copays and unexpected medical costs
- Paying for added childcare expenses
- Supporting the family financially in cases of lost time at work
- Added transportation costs
