Emergency Medical Assistance Needed

My name is Mark Melnick, and I am setting up this fundraiser to help my brother, David Melnick, and his wife Jean with emergency medical and living expenses.

For over five years, David and Jean have been happily working as directors for The Samaritan Foundation, a Canadian not-for-profit organization that builds and gives away new homes to the poorest of the poor families in the Dominican Republic. Just this year, they witnessed a family move into the 2000th house built by this foundation.

About ten days ago the medical crisis began when Dave awoke to what appeared to be stroke-like symptoms. Jean rushed him to the local hospital in Puerto Plata which was unable to help him. Another long drive took them to a hospital in Santiago where the doctors ran numerous tests including an MRI and CAT scan which quickly ruled out the possibility a stroke had occurred. Their consensus - a parasite had invaded Dave’s brain causing severe swelling in two places, one dangerously close to his brain stem. With his situation rapidly declining, Dave was intubated and placed on life support while infectious disease specialists were sought. Immediately, prayers for a miracle began through the Melnick’s global network of family, friends, mission supporters, and churches. Thankfully, an anonymous donor stepped forward to cover the cost of transporting Dave and Jean back to Canada where Dave can receive the next level of care. We all hope and pray a miracle, restoring Dave to full health, will happen.

We humbly ask you as partners to help us financially support Jean as she sits round the clock with Dave, meets with doctors, makes hard decisions, leads their family in a time of crisis and, prays without ceasing. Your gifts will support them in the following ways; a private quiet living space where she can retreat and re-energize for each day, food and transportation expenses, miscellaneous medical expenses not covered by other means, her daily living needs etc. Any amount you can contribute will be greatly appreciated and help send the Melnick’s a strong message of love and support.
