My brother, Dan Stevens, has always been the smartest person I’ve ever known. Even now, after three strokes and two major seizures in less than three years, I’m still certain he’s smarter than me.

Unfortunately, the strokes have caused extensive damage to his brain, and made it impossible for him to recall even the most basic of information, routine processes, or expertise he once had. Doctors concur that he cannot work. He filed for Social Security Disability nearly two years ago, and now faces another lengthy wait for an appeal process. Unable to work, he may end up losing his home – the only place of stability for him.
