On Saturday, June 12, Carlos Ruiz passed away surrounded by his loved ones after several years living with prostate cancer.
Carlos was a beloved member of his family and community and he meant so much to so many of us. He grew up in Half Moon Bay and was a fixture on the sidelines of so many local baseball and football games, watching his son Lil Carlos and cheering for our coastside boys. His loss will be felt by so many people whose lives he has touched, and the joy he shared with the people who loved and knew him will be missed beyond measure.
Like so many in our community, we love Ramona and Lil Carlos and are heartbroken for their loss. The three of us have been fortunate to have known this family and to have been friends with Ramona since 2009, when our children started kindergarten together. If you have been lucky enough in life to know the Ruiz family, you know that they are some of the kindest, most selfless, and big-hearted people on the planet, always generous with their love and support to the family, friends, and community around them. Now it's our time to support this amazing family.
The purpose of this fundraiser is to help offset funeral and medical costs for Ramona and family and to help provide for the family in the future. Lil Carlos will be a senior in high school this coming school year, and college looms on the horizon. We hope this fundraiser will also help with his upcoming college expenses; we know how much his future education mattered to his dad. While we cannot replace the loss of Big Carlos to his family, we hope that these funds can lessen some of their financial burden and support Ramona and Lil Carlos during this extremely difficult time.

El sábado 12 de junio Carlos Ruiz falleció rodeado de sus seres queridos después de varios años viviendo con cáncer de próstata.
Carlos fue querido por su familia y comunidad y significaba mucho para muchos de nosotros. Creció en Half Moon Bay y fue un elemento fijo a la banda de tantos juegos de béisbol y fútbol locales, observando a su hijo, el pequeño Carlos, y animando a nuestros muchachos de la costa. Su pérdida será sentida por tantas personas cuyas vidas ha tocado, y la alegría que compartió con las personas que lo amaron y lo conocieron será extrañada sin medida.
Como muchos en nuestra comunidad, amamos a Ramona y al pequeño Carlos y estamos desconsolados por su pérdida. Las tres hemos tenido la suerte de conocer a esta familia y ser amigas de Ramona desde 2009, cuando nuestros hijos empezaron el kinder juntos. Si ha tenido la suerte en la vida de conocer a la familia Ruiz, sabe que son algunas de las personas más amables, altruistas y de gran corazón del planeta, siempre generosas con su amor y apoyo a la familia, amigos y comunidad a su alrededor. Ahora es nuestro momento de apoyar a esta increíble familia.
El propósito de esta recaudación de fondos es ayudar a compensar los costos médicos y funerarios para Ramona y su familia y ayudar a mantener a la familia en el futuro. El pequeño Carlos estará en el último año de la escuela secundaria el próximo año escolar, y la universidad se vislumbra en el horizonte. Esperamos que esta recaudación de fondos también le ayude con sus próximos gastos universitarios; sabemos cuánto le importaba a su padre su educación futura. Si bien no podemos reemplazar la pérdida de Big Carlos por su familia, esperamos que estos fondos puedan aliviar parte de su carga financiera y apoyar a Ramona y al pequeño Carlos durante este momento extremadamente difícil.
