Hi! My name is Stefanie everyone knows my wife as Melissa or aka Missie. Melissa went into the hospital on Monday May 12 to get a Stent removed on Wednesday May 14. On Tuesday May 13th she couldn't see anything and on Wednesday May 13 she couldn't feel her ride side of her body. The drs ran some test and found fluid and some lesions on both sides of her brain. She was then transferred to the big Duke hospital Thursday evening. Friday may 16th she was speaking to the night nurse before she left and when the morning nurse came in the morning asked Melissa her name and she couldn't respond she asked again and nothing. So I jumped up and asked melissa who I was and nothing with a blank look on her face..she couldn't lift her left leg. I asked her to touch her left hand to her nose and she was able to do that..she could hear us and do the commands but could not speak. The drs called a code stroke and rushed her into ct scan where the scan found out more damage. She was brought down to ICU. The dr came in and wanted another test so they took her to have another test done where they go into the groin and shoot dye into the brain to see what's going on. She has whats called vasospasm which is the narrowing of the arteries which means no blood flow and oxygen was getting through so the dr put some medication in the arteries to open them up. She also has something which is called PRES (posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome) from high blood pressure. She still hasnt been able to move her left leg but she has gotten some movement back in her right arm. She will be needing to go to a physical therapy rehab for intense therapy 3 hrs a day. There are no rehabs back at home where they will take her because she is on Tpn for her nutrients. So we are hoping there will be a rehab in NC that takes our insurance and takes her TPN. I know my insurance isnt going to cover the whole thing. I will be going back and forth. Hotels are not cheap and eating out is not cheap either. I am taking a leave of absence with no pay to help her and get her situated. I am asking for donations and alot of prayers.. if your cant donate that's ok we need prayers... she has a long road ahead of her and I know she will come through.. this is just a bump in the road for her.
