As you know by now, our Hale teachers are all on strike, fighting for the future of public education in our school and across LA.
The teachers are fighting for our kids. Your kids. For smaller classroom sizes, and more resources such as full-time nurses, librarians and counselors. They're fighting for the future of quality public schools.
Districts around the country are watching as education dollars continue to dwindle and teachers across the country are facing many of these same challenges. Our LA teachers are saying "ENOUGH". Our kids deserve more, and as taxpayers and voters we must demand more.
Meanwhile... this battle is being waged on the backs of our teachers. They are going without pay until this strike is over and this is a tremendous financial hardship for them. They have spent the last week in the pouring rain, picketing and rallying all over the city, from Califa Avenue to City Hall in Downtown LA.
Hale has over 80 teachers for our 2100+ student population. As of today, our teachers are out of pocket a full week of pay with no end in sight.
As a community, it would be wonderful if we could wrap our arms around them as they fight for our kids. This fund will be divvied up equally across our teachers and give them the money they need to help ease the costs of this strike. We set the initial goal at $25K, which sounds like a lot! However, spread across 80+ teachers, it's a small token of appreciation for their sacrifice.
So many parents are in support of our teachers, but can't be out on the picket lines. This is a way to help our Hale teachers directly and ease a little of the financial burden.
They have not asked us to do this. We want to do this. We hope our Hale families will rally to further show our teachers we are behind them 100%. No amount is too small. Thank you.
